Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman, who faced five expulsions from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has recently joined Jamaat-e-Islami. This political shift follows his unsuccessful independent bid in the January 2024 parliamentary elections for the Kishoreganj-2 seat, where he failed to retain his deposit. During his campaign for that election, which was boycotted by major opposition groups, Akhtaruzzaman had expressed confidence in his victory despite the political climate. Notably, only months prior to the election, he had publicly cautioned citizens and political activists against Jamaat-e-Islami, labeling the organization as dangerous. His recent affiliation marks a significant reversal of his previous public stance regarding the party.
