German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on Sunday, leading a delegation that included executives from major German defense firms. During his visit, Merz intends to demonstrate Germany's commitment to Ukraine as the country faces intensified Russian strikes on residential areas and energy infrastructure. The German government plans to provide one billion euros in military assistance alongside 350 million euros dedicated to energy sector repairs. Furthermore, the visit aims to conclude an agreement regarding the collaborative manufacturing of drones. Beyond immediate security concerns, Merz is anticipated to encourage the Ukrainian administration to advance essential reforms, particularly those targeting corruption, as requested by European Union partners. The Chancellor emphasized the urgency of continued international backing for Ukraine during this critical period of the ongoing conflict.
