Hong Kong police have detained two individuals, identified by local reports as independent reporter Tang Ho-wing and activist Lee Ying-chi, on suspicion of committing acts with seditious intent. The arrests, carried out by officers from the National Security Department, are reportedly connected to commemorations of the 2019 Prince Edward MTR station incident. According to the Hong Kong Journalists Association, this incident represents the first instance of a media professional being apprehended for sedition under the city's 2024 security legislation. Images circulating in local media depicted the 37-year-old journalist being escorted from a residential property in handcuffs. Authorities have confirmed the ages of the suspects as 37 and 58, though they did not officially release their identities. The investigation remains ongoing as the city continues to enforce its domestic security framework.
