The Hong Kong Department of Justice has failed in its attempt to overturn the acquittal of former lawmaker Lam Cheuk-ting regarding a charge of perverting the course of justice. A three-judge panel at the Court of Appeal confirmed the original verdict, which cleared Lam and two other individuals of wrongdoing. The legal proceedings stemmed from an incident on July 6, 2019, following a demonstration at Tuen Mun Park. Prosecutors had alleged that the defendants pressured a man to erase photographs from his mobile device, which they believed contained images of protesters taken during a separate event on July 1, 2019, near the Wan Chai police headquarters. The appellate court's decision maintains the lower court's finding that the defendants were not guilty of the charges brought against them.
