The Japanese government is initiating efforts to mitigate the impact of the red-necked longhorn beetle, an invasive insect species first identified within Aichi Prefecture in 2012. This particular beetle poses a significant threat to the health of cherry blossom trees, as its larvae can cause fatal damage to the wood. Given the cultural and environmental importance of these trees throughout the country, officials are now focusing on strategies to contain the spread of the infestation and protect existing groves from further destruction.
