Japanese motor producer Nidec has announced the closure of its sole manufacturing facility in Cambodia, located in the Poipet region of Banteay Meanchey province. The factory, which employs 724 staff members, is scheduled to cease operations on October 22. The company cited persistent logistical challenges and the lack of reliable cross-border transportation between Cambodia and Thailand as the primary reasons for this strategic shift. The plant currently manufactures die-cast components for precision motors, including those utilized in hard disk drives, which were previously transported by truck to Thai facilities. Nidec has confirmed that it is organizing alternative production arrangements to ensure that the closure does not significantly impact its overall supply chain or output capabilities.
