Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer, V Anbu Kumar, has announced that legal proceedings will be initiated against individuals submitting mass applications to remove names from the state's electoral rolls. This decision follows concerns raised by Congress leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, regarding a surge in Form 7 submissions. Recent reports indicated that a significant portion of approximately 4,000 deletion requests specifically targeted Muslim voters. In response to these allegations of non-genuine filings, Kumar issued a formal circular to district election officials, mandating strict scrutiny of all such applications. The directive aims to ensure the integrity of the special intensive revision process for electoral rolls by preventing the misuse of the deletion procedure.
