Russian hip-hop performer Navai Bakirov is currently being held in pre-trial detention in Kazakhstan following his arrest at a border crossing. Authorities apprehended the 31-year-old artist while he was traveling from Kyrgyzstan, reportedly discovering 2.5 grams of marijuana in his vehicle. The Korday District Court has mandated a two-month detention period for the musician, who allegedly confessed to acquiring the substances in Bishkek. This legal situation has forced the cancellation of a scheduled performance in Astana and the postponement of an upcoming concert in Moldova. Bakirov, known for his work in the duo HammAli & Navai, recently settled a separate legal matter in Moscow involving a vehicle accident. The artist remains in custody as the investigation into the smuggling allegations proceeds.
