A proposal has been introduced in Kazakhstan to limit social media registration for individuals under the age of 16. Deputy Zhanarbek Ashimzhanov submitted this request to Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, citing concerns regarding the impact of digital platforms on the mental health, academic performance, and overall behavior of youth. The initiative draws upon findings from a World Health Organization study involving 280,000 teenagers across 44 nations. Data from this research indicates that problematic social media usage among adolescents rose from 7 percent in 2018 to 11 percent by 2022. Ashimzhanov highlighted that this growing trend is closely linked to negative health outcomes, including sleep deprivation and diminished psychological stability. The deputy is calling for government action to address these rising concerns and protect the well-being of the younger generation in the country.
