Established in 1901 based on the directives of Alfred Nobel, the Nobel Prize honors significant contributions to human progress. The upcoming 2026 laureates are scheduled to be revealed from October 5 to October 12, beginning with the medicine category. Throughout its history, five recipients of the Peace Prize were unable to accept their awards in person due to incarceration or state-imposed restrictions. Notable examples include Carl von Ossietzky, who was held in a Nazi camp in 1936, and Aung San Suu Kyi, who remained under house arrest in Myanmar during her 1991 win. Additionally, Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo was imprisoned when he was selected for the honor in 2010. These instances highlight the intersection of global recognition and political suppression faced by various laureates over the past century.
