A five-year-old child suffering from Wilson’s disease has successfully received a liver transplant at KIST Teaching Hospital in Lalitpur. The patient, whose health had deteriorated significantly due to the rare genetic condition involving copper accumulation, underwent the procedure on August 18. Her 33-year-old mother served as the donor, providing a portion of her liver for the operation. Medical staff at the facility stabilized the young girl through intensive care and specialized treatment for approximately one month prior to the surgery. Following the successful transplant and recovery period, the mother was released from the hospital earlier, while the young patient was discharged on September 9. This medical milestone highlights the hospital's capacity for complex surgical interventions.
