In an effort to manage operational expenses and prioritize significant capital allocation toward artificial intelligence initiatives, Microsoft has announced a voluntary buyout program. This initiative targets approximately 60,000 employees, representing over 25 percent of the company's total global workforce. According to reports, the offer extends to personnel across various divisions, including Xbox, Windows + Devices, finance, human resources, and teams focused on Copilot and AI experiences. Conversely, departments such as security, commercial business, and marketing are reportedly not included in this restructuring plan. The move reflects the technology corporation's strategic shift to streamline its internal costs while sustaining its heavy investment in emerging AI technologies.
