Lanka Metro Transit is developing a new initiative to allow the public to rent metro buses for private excursions on Saturdays and Sundays. This service is intended to optimize the utility of the fleet during weekends, a time when standard commuter demand typically declines as many individuals travel to their home regions. According to company officials, this program remains in the planning phase and will only be implemented once the metro bus network is fully operational. The service is anticipated to launch following October. Once the system is active, interested parties will be able to secure a vehicle for private use by contacting the official Metro Bus hotline. This initiative aims to provide additional transport options for the public while ensuring the efficient use of transit assets during off-peak days.
