Malaysia's tourism industry maintained a positive trajectory during the first eight months of 2026, welcoming 28.8 million international visitors. This figure represents a 1.8 percent rise compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. Mohd Akbal Setia, the deputy director-general of promotion for Tourism Malaysia, noted that these statistics highlight the nation's enduring popularity among global travelers and emphasize the necessity of fostering international collaborations. Speaking at the International Tourism, Arts and Culture Exhibition and Conference in Kuala Lumpur on behalf of Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Mohd Akbal stated that this growth is vital for the success of the Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 initiative. The ongoing performance suggests that the sector is effectively building momentum as the country prepares for its upcoming national tourism campaigns.
