Representative Elijah San Fernando of the Kamanggagawa Partylist has publicly condemned the Department of Labor and Employment for the clandestine approval of a revised wage order in Metro Manila. According to the legislator, Wage Order No. 28 was finalized late Monday without prior consultation with labor groups, effectively lowering a previously sanctioned P85 pay hike to P60. This development follows a Pasig trial court's decision to suspend the earlier Wage Order No. 27, which had originally provided for a two-part increase. San Fernando characterized the new directive as an unprecedented reduction in worker compensation, arguing that the government bypassed transparency by failing to notify labor organizations about the proceedings. The lawmaker voiced these concerns during a recent budget hearing at the House of Representatives, highlighting the impact of the adjustment on the local workforce.
