Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has achieved a significant political comeback by winning Brazil's presidential election, defeating Flavio Bolsonaro. Despite trailing in initial polling and facing a strong conservative movement across South America, the leftist leader secured 51.7 percent of the vote compared to 48.2 percent for his opponent. This victory grants the 81-year-old politician an unprecedented fourth term in office. The result marks a departure from the recent regional trend that saw several neighboring nations shift toward right-wing governance. Although Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, entered the final day of voting with expectations of success based on earlier projections, he was ultimately unable to maintain his lead. Supporters of the Workers' Party gathered to celebrate the outcome as official tallies confirmed the final results.
