Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that Pacquiao’s history of engaging with vulnerable communities and his sincere desire to provide aid were key considerations for his appointment. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. administered the oath of office to Pacquiao on Tuesday. While the administration expressed confidence in his leadership to drive poverty reduction and social reform, officials have not yet provided specific details regarding the departure of his predecessor, Lope Santos III. As lead convenor, Pacquiao will manage the daily operations of the commission and coordinate efforts across fourteen basic sectors, including farmers, fisherfolk, and the urban poor, in accordance with the Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation Act.
