Authorities in the Mangystau Region have issued a public warning regarding a surge in telephone scams targeting local residents. Criminals are contacting individuals while impersonating staff from the Mangystau Regional Electricity Grid Company (MREK JSC) to solicit payments for electricity meter verification services. The utility provider has clarified that it does not perform these inspections, as it lacks the necessary certifications and laboratory facilities. Furthermore, the company emphasized that it does not offer such services to the public. This fraudulent activity follows a similar pattern observed in Aktau earlier this year, where scammers attempted to obtain sensitive verification codes from residents by pretending to represent local energy enterprises. Officials are urging citizens to exercise caution and avoid sharing personal information or codes with unknown callers who claim to be utility representatives.
