Master Sergeant Chin Shi Lee has achieved a historic milestone as the first woman to serve as a sniper in the Singapore Armed Forces. Currently stationed in Australia for Exercise Wallaby, she is now responsible for mentoring upcoming sharpshooters. Chin initially joined the military following a recruitment event during her final year of polytechnic studies. Although she did not originally intend to pursue this specific role, her proficiency in marksmanship and growing interest led her to apply for the Sniper Wing. Her transition into this specialized unit was supported by her colleagues and superiors, despite the rigorous selection process. This training program demands high levels of mental and physical endurance, challenging candidates well beyond basic shooting accuracy. Chin emphasizes that the profession involves much more than just firing a weapon, highlighting the comprehensive skill set required for modern sniper operations.
