Data released by the UK Maritime Trade Operations indicates that October saw the highest frequency of attacks on commercial shipping within the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters since the current conflict began. With over 30 recorded incidents, the figure represents a significant increase, more than doubling the total reported in September and exceeding the previous peak observed in March. These findings challenge claims by United States officials regarding the security and openness of this vital maritime route. Since the hostilities commenced, the agency has documented a total of 145 separate events, though the actual number of hostile actions may be greater as the data only accounts for verified reports from vessels. The trend remains concerning for regional maritime safety, highlighted by a recent strike on a crude oil tanker.
