Bangladesh currently faces a severe dengue crisis, with the national death toll reaching 281 this year. Recent data from the Directorate General of Health Services indicates a worsening trend, with 19 fatalities recorded over the last two days alone. While the disease has now reached every district, experts highlight a critical failure in preventative infrastructure. Although more than 48,000 committees were established at various administrative levels to manage mosquito populations, these bodies exist primarily on paper and remain largely non-functional. Public health specialists argue that curbing the spread of Aedes-borne dengue requires the Ministry of Local Government to move beyond administrative formalities and implement proactive, tangible control measures. The responsibility for vector management rests with the Local Government Division, yet the lack of operational oversight has left the country vulnerable to the ongoing outbreak.
