The Women and Social Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives has instructed the government to establish dedicated helpdesks at holding centers for flood-affected regions. This initiative aims to safeguard women, children, and other vulnerable populations from potential exploitation. Committee chair Akriti Awasthi highlighted concerns that individuals might take advantage of the disaster to deceive victims with fraudulent offers of employment, transportation, or relief. The directive specifically emphasizes the need for designated contact persons to monitor safety in high-risk areas, including various locations along the Trishuli corridor and throughout Rasuwa district. By implementing these measures, the committee intends to prevent human trafficking and other forms of abuse that often arise during humanitarian crises, ensuring that those displaced by recent flooding receive secure and reliable support while staying in temporary shelters.
