The Philippine administration is actively implementing comprehensive measures to address the anticipated challenges of a severe El Niño phenomenon. This initiative follows warnings from the University of Chicago’s Climate Impact Lab, which estimates that extreme heat could lead to approximately 6,500 fatalities by February 2027. In response, Palace official Claire Castro confirmed that the National Irrigation Administration has developed a strategic plan to assist the agricultural sector during periods of water scarcity. Key components of this strategy include utilizing groundwater mapping from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau to facilitate the installation of solar-powered irrigation pumps. These efforts are being conducted under the direct mandate of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure national readiness and minimize the impact of the prolonged dry season on the population and local food production.
