The Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA) has formally expressed opposition to a suggested total ban on social media access for individuals under the age of 18. According to National Executive Director Carolina Uno-Rayco, such a prohibition fails to tackle the underlying factors contributing to youth violence. The organization argues that addressing issues like school-related aggression requires a multifaceted strategy, including enhanced mental health resources, improved school safety, and the early detection of behavioral concerns. While the PMHA acknowledges the necessity of shielding minors from dangerous digital content, it emphasizes that social media remains a vital tool for youth expression, learning, and social connection. Consequently, the association advocates for more robust platform security measures and increased collaborative efforts between educational institutions and families rather than implementing a broad legislative ban.
