Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has announced his intention to summon Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan following comments made by the diplomat regarding the ongoing maritime territorial dispute. During a recent event, the ambassador suggested that China could readily prevail in a conflict, a remark the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs characterized as a thinly veiled threat of military action. The government expressed strong disapproval of the statement, which was released by the Chinese Embassy shortly after the ambassador's appearance at the Second Diliman Dialogue. President Marcos noted that the ambassador's rhetoric appeared to constitute a direct threat, prompting the administration to seek further clarification. While the Chinese embassy maintained that they prefer to avoid confrontation, the Philippine government remains vigilant regarding the implications of such language concerning national security and regional stability.
