The Turkish Ministry of Defense has officially requested that the United States terminate sanctions and limitations currently affecting the nation's defense sector. During a recent press briefing in Ankara, officials characterized these measures, specifically those enacted under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, as contrary to the principles of their bilateral alliance. Discussions regarding the status of six F-35 fighter jets originally manufactured for Turkey remain ongoing. While the ministry expressed optimism that these negotiations would reach a favorable outcome consistent with mutual strategic interests, no specific timeline for the delivery of the aircraft or the potential lifting of trade restrictions was provided. The ministry emphasized that it expects a resolution that aligns with the established partnership between the two countries, following previous indications from the US administration regarding a potential path forward.
