President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the Qarmet steelworks in Temirtau on November 2 to review a $3.5 billion industrial modernization initiative. The project includes the construction of new coke batteries, which are slated to begin operations in 2027 as part of the nation's inaugural coal-chemical complex. These developments are intended to phase out outdated production infrastructure that has been in use since the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to the coke batteries, the company plans to complete three other major industrial projects by 2028, including a long-products rolling mill, a casting and rolling facility, and a line dedicated to galvanizing and polymer coating. President Tokayev expressed approval regarding the company's ongoing investment efforts during his inspection of the site.
