During the 81st session of the UN General Assembly’s Sixth Committee, Qatar emphasized the necessity of applying international law consistently to avoid double standards. Abdulaziz al-Sulaiti, representing Qatar’s permanent mission, argued that the legitimacy of the global legal framework relies heavily on the equitable enforcement of its regulations. He noted that adherence to the rule of law is a fundamental obligation rather than a mere goal outlined in the UN Charter. The session, which focused on agenda item 84, highlighted the interconnected nature of legal standards at both domestic and international levels. Furthermore, Qatar underscored the importance of strengthening these systems, citing its own Ministry of Justice’s strategic plan for 2025-2030 as an example of domestic efforts to uphold legal principles.
