Caloocan City Representative Edgar Erice has formally requested that his fellow lawmakers prioritize the passage of legislation aimed at curbing political dynasties. During a recent privilege speech, Erice highlighted the legislative branch's nearly forty-year delay in fulfilling a specific mandate outlined in the 1987 Constitution. He referenced Article II, Section 26, which requires the state to ensure equal public service opportunities and restrict dynastic political control. Erice emphasized that the Supreme Court recently determined this prolonged inaction represents a significant abuse of discretion. By failing to define and prohibit these dynasties, Congress has neglected its constitutional obligations. The representative is now pushing for urgent compliance with the high court's ruling to finally address this long-standing legal requirement.
