The Transport General Authority of Saudi Arabia has released data indicating that Saudi Railways (SAR) facilitated travel for approximately 40.9 million passengers during the third quarter of 2026. Additionally, the network moved 3.9 million tons of freight alongside 46,300 containers. The majority of passenger traffic, totaling 38.3 million, was attributed to intra-city services, with the Riyadh Metro accounting for 30.4 million riders. Other significant contributors included the King Abdulaziz International Airport train and the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University line. Intercity rail operations served over 2.5 million individuals, with the Haramain High Speed Railway, which connects Makkah and Madinah, transporting more than 1.9 million passengers. These figures represent a notable increase in rail utilization across the Kingdom compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
