A Pakistani Senate committee has endorsed new legislative measures aimed at tightening oversight of the cosmetics industry and restricting the availability of energy drinks. Under the proposed rules, selling energy drinks to minors within federal educational institutions will be prohibited, with potential fines reaching Rs100,000 for non-compliance. Furthermore, the Pakistan General Cosmetics Bill was approved to establish a regulatory body tasked with monitoring the production, importation, and retail of beauty products. During the session, Minister for Defence Production Raza Hayat Harraj highlighted significant health concerns, noting that unregulated fairness creams containing mercury have been linked to cancer cases. Officials emphasized that the current lack of standardized regulations has hindered the safety and quality control of cosmetic goods across the nation.
