The Coastal Conservation Department conducted an operation this morning to clear illegally built fish stalls along the coastline at Dewata Beach in Galle. Security was maintained during the demolition by personnel from the Police and the Special Task Force. Local vendors expressed significant frustration regarding the action, asserting that they had received no advance warning to vacate the premises. Furthermore, the traders claimed that municipal authorities had originally directed them to establish their businesses at this specific location after being displaced from previous sites. In response, department officials refuted these claims, maintaining that the vendors had been issued proper prior notification to dismantle the unauthorized structures. The clearance operation proceeded despite the objections raised by the affected business owners.
