Senator Panfilo Lacson stated that the choice to not subpoena former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial was a collective decision, not solely that of presiding officer Francis Escudero. While the House prosecution withdrew Trillanes as a witness, he later held a press conference alleging that Duterte and her husband received significant funds from China. Lacson noted that while Trillanes' research is detailed, its legal value is limited by a lack of personal knowledge. Court spokesperson Regie Tongol added that the prosecution failed to request the subpoena in a timely manner. Meanwhile, Duterte's camp dismissed the allegations as long-standing fabrications, accusing Trillanes of avoiding legal scrutiny by choosing to speak publicly rather than testifying under oath where he could be cross-examined by the defense.
