The International Criminal Court has authorized the prosecution to utilize the previously recorded testimony of a witness identified as P-1100 for the upcoming trial of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. This decision, issued by the Trial Chamber on October 2, 2026, aims to improve procedural efficiency by shortening the witness's direct examination time. While the prosecution argued that the evidence is vital for proving allegations regarding a violent policy against suspected criminals and the operations of the Davao Death Squad, the defense had sought to block the move, claiming the testimony lacked relevance. The court ultimately ruled that the inclusion of the statement is fair to the accused. However, the judges limited the prosecution's supplementary questioning to one hour, deeming their initial two-hour request excessive. The trial is set to commence on November 30, 2026.
