Recent health data from Singapore’s Ministry of Health and Health Promotion Board indicates a concerning rise in sodium consumption among residents. While citizens have shown improvements in physical activity levels and reduced sugar intake, 95 percent of the population now exceeds the daily recommended sodium limit of 2,000mg. This figure represents an increase from 88 percent in 2019, with average daily intake reaching 4,000mg. Furthermore, the survey highlights a rise in average daily calorie consumption, which climbed to 2,460 calories. Currently, 57 percent of residents ingest more energy than their bodies require, with the 18 to 29 age demographic recording the highest average intake at 2,655 calories. These findings underscore persistent nutritional challenges despite positive shifts in exercise habits across the nation.
