Data released by the Ministry of Education indicates that parents in South Korea are experiencing significant delays in securing spots at day care facilities. As of June, the average waiting period for toddlers has reached 8.5 months. This figure represents a notable increase from the 5.8-month average recorded in 2022, specifically for children around 18 months old. Representative Seo Beom-soo of the People Power Party emphasized the necessity of evaluating regional and age-specific demand to address these logistical challenges. Officials are now being urged to formulate effective strategies to reduce these wait times, particularly for the youngest age demographic between zero and two years old, as the current backlog continues to impact families across the country.
