Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad confirmed that Malaysia and the World Health Organization are working toward completing a comprehensive pandemic agreement by May 2027. During a meeting with WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Manila, the minister highlighted the importance of balancing intellectual property protections with fair access to medical resources during future health crises. These discussions took place during the 77th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific. Furthermore, the WHO has requested that Malaysia assume a strategic leadership position within the Western Pacific region. This role involves collaborating with neighboring nations to foster international consensus regarding emergency preparedness and response protocols. The commitment underscores Malaysia's active participation in shaping global health governance frameworks to better manage potential future outbreaks.
