A recent investigation by Hong Kong's Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has identified significant safety failures involving lift contractor Taizoom Elevator. Following the discovery of defects at two public housing estates, authorities inspected 383 buildings equipped with the company's lifts. The probe revealed that 338 private properties lacked essential smoke-seal components within their door frames, which are critical for preventing the spread of fire and smoke into lift shafts. The department has confirmed that it is currently notifying the relevant management companies and owners' corporations regarding these non-compliant installations. This development follows a broader review of the contractor's work across the city to ensure building safety standards are maintained.
