The KOSPI index experienced a downward trend on Thursday, closing 0.25 percent lower at 7,033.92 points. This market retreat was primarily triggered by investor anxiety regarding inflation, exacerbated by a spike in crude oil prices linked to ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East. Market participants remained cautious as they awaited the publication of significant economic data from the United States. Despite the overall decline in share prices, the South Korean won strengthened against the US dollar. Trading activity remained moderate throughout the session, with 418.4 million shares changing hands for a total value of 28.19 trillion won. Market breadth was negative, as the number of declining stocks surpassed those that saw gains.
