Starting October 1, Sri Lanka Railways will allow private-sector workers to purchase monthly season tickets through its digital reservation portal. This service, previously restricted to government employees, aims to streamline the commuting process for those traveling by train. The announcement was made during a launch event attended by Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena and Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne. By utilizing the seatreservation.railway.gov.lk website, passengers can bypass the traditional, manual application process that required physical documentation, such as proof of residence, photographs, and identity card requests. This digital transition is designed to modernize the ticketing system and improve accessibility for the broader workforce relying on rail transport for their daily travel needs.
