The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Stockholm recently hosted an educational event for Swedish students centered on the classic children's book Madol Doova by Martin Wickramasinghe. Recognized as a foundational figure in modern Sinhala literature, Wickramasinghe's work served as a gateway for the children to learn about Sri Lankan traditions and heritage. The session featured a reading by translator Priyanwada M. Banduwardana, who shared a chapter from the Swedish edition of the novel. This was followed by a question-and-answer session where the students engaged in discussions regarding the narrative, its characters, and broader aspects of Sri Lankan culture. The initiative was designed to foster cross-cultural understanding and introduce young readers in Sweden to the literary contributions of Sri Lanka.
