Taiwanese Sports Minister Lee Yang successfully attended a flag-raising event for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday, despite an initial one-hour postponement. The delay occurred after organizers requested delegations to wait, with Minister without Portfolio Wu Cheng-wen reporting that the Olympic Council of Asia allegedly attempted to prevent Lee from participating. Officials at the venue failed to provide documentation for this supposed restriction. Following discussions with the organizers, the Taiwanese delegation was permitted to join the ceremony. Lee emphasized that the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee had followed all necessary procedures and expressed a commitment to protecting the nation's rights against potential suppression. The minister encouraged the public to support Taiwanese athletes as the Games officially commence on Saturday, aiming to increase the country's international visibility through competitive excellence.
