According to reports from the National Police Department and the gendarmerie, Turkish security forces conducted extensive digital surveillance throughout 2025. Officials examined more than 600,000 social media profiles, leading to the identification of over 210,000 individuals for potential legal proceedings. The police department's virtual patrol unit specifically scrutinized 257,481 accounts, subsequently referring 162,298 users to judicial authorities. This monitoring initiative targeted content related to terrorist propaganda, illegal narcotics, and public incitement of hatred. Furthermore, authorities tracked posts involving violence against women or animals, as well as statements deemed insulting to the President, the Turkish nation, or the state's territorial integrity. These activities reflect an ongoing effort by law enforcement agencies to regulate online discourse and address perceived threats to public safety and national institutions.
