The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) in Turkey has issued fresh financial penalties against Sözcü TV and Koza TV. These sanctions follow previous fines handed down to the stations less than a fortnight ago. Sözcü TV was ordered to pay one percent of its monthly advertising income due to broadcast content regarding the incarceration of journalist Murat Ağırel, which regulators argued implied he was detained for his professional work. Meanwhile, Koza TV faces a two percent revenue fine for airing segments where opposition politicians discussed an investment fund controversy. The regulator justified the penalty by stating that the program host failed to verify the claims made by the lawmakers or provide a counter-perspective during the discussion. These actions represent a continued effort by the oversight body to regulate media coverage of sensitive political and financial topics.
