The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has advanced a draft law proposing life imprisonment for the rape of children under 14. Initiated by the Adolat party, the legislation seeks to strengthen child protection mechanisms by amending the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes. Data indicates that 445 cases involving the rape of minors were recorded between 2022 and 2025. The bill eliminates statutes of limitations for such sexual offenses and mandates video recording for minor interrogations. Furthermore, the proposal shifts investigative responsibilities to the prosecutor’s office and ensures state-funded legal aid for victims. The reforms also introduce penalties for those failing to protect children and increase accountability for parents and educational staff. This initiative aligns with the Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy, which prioritizes the creation of a robust system to combat violence against women and children through specialized legal procedures.
