The World Trade Organization (WTO) announced that international goods trade has demonstrated resilience, showing growth above baseline trends despite significant geopolitical instability and shifting trade policies. According to the latest Goods Trade Barometer, the reading rose to 102 in September, up from 101.7 in June. While the organization previously projected a slowdown in trade growth due to rising energy costs and supply chain disruptions linked to Middle Eastern conflicts and new U.S. tariffs, current demand for electronic components and artificial intelligence infrastructure is helping to sustain momentum. However, the WTO cautioned that the outlook remains uncertain. Regional and sectoral trade performance continues to be inconsistent, and persistent risks regarding transport costs and shipping route interruptions could still impact future global trade stability.
