Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, Senator Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, has dismissed allegations that Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) depositors' savings were utilized to cover Social Security Organisation (Socso) contributions for religious personnel. He clarified that the government provided a dedicated allocation to fund these payments for 40,000 individuals, including imams, bilals, mosque caretakers, and takmir teachers. While TH acted as the implementing agency for the initiative, the minister emphasized that no pilgrim savings were involved in the process. Dr. Zulkifli stated that the government-funded program aims to enhance the social protection and welfare of these religious workers in recognition of their contributions to the community. He labeled any suggestions to the contrary as entirely speculative and false.
