The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has announced the issuance of arrest warrants for seven Turkish citizens, including prominent pro-government commentator Fatih Tezcan. The Binagadi District Court in Baku authorized these warrants in absentia, prompting an international search for the individuals involved. The group, which also includes activist Rıdvan Kaya and writer Zekeriya Ceran, faces serious legal allegations. Authorities claim the suspects engaged in inciting religious hatred, promoting extremism, and advocating for the violent overthrow of the Azerbaijani government. These charges stem from social media activity related to a recent controversy regarding headscarf restrictions in schools. This legal action highlights a notable diplomatic friction between the two allied nations, as Baku moves to prosecute Turkish residents for their digital commentary on domestic Azerbaijani policies.
