Actor Hemal Ranasinghe has been released by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court after reaching a settlement regarding an assault case involving film critic Lakmina Ranasinghe. Magistrate Kanchana Neranjala Silva approved the release following the submission of a Mediation Board report. As part of the agreement, Ranasinghe acknowledged his actions, offered an apology, and committed to paying 500,000 rupees in compensation. Additionally, the actor is prohibited from making disparaging or defamatory remarks against the critic on any media platforms. Despite these terms, legal counsel for the complainant informed the court that the film critic continues to face online harassment. The proceedings concluded with the court noting the terms of the settlement, though concerns regarding ongoing social media behavior remain a point of contention for the plaintiff's legal team.
