The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered Perera and Sons Bakers Pvt Ltd to pay a penalty of 200,000 rupees. This legal action followed a guilty plea from the company regarding the sale of expired cream buns. Officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority discovered the strawberry-flavored products, which had passed their expiration date, during a routine check at the firm's St. Benedict’s Mawatha location on April 20, 2026. Following the court's ruling, the Consumer Affairs Authority advised the public to exercise caution by verifying production and expiration dates on all food purchases. Furthermore, the regulatory body encouraged citizens to report any businesses found violating consumer safety standards to the authorities to ensure market compliance and public health protection.
